Why Choose On-Site Training?
On-site manual handling training is the most practical and effective option for most Irish employers. Rather than arranging for staff to travel to a training centre, our instructor travels to your premises — saving time, reducing disruption, and allowing training to take place in the actual environment where your people work.
Training in the real workplace is more effective than training in a generic classroom. When participants practise lifting techniques using the actual loads, equipment, and physical environments they encounter every day, the skills are immediately applicable and the behaviour change lasts. A warehouse trainer lifting real stock from your racking system will retain technique better than the same trainer lifting generic props in an unfamiliar room.
For employers who need to train large teams — particularly where different departments or shifts have different schedules — on-site delivery with multiple sessions in a single day is by far the most efficient approach. We can typically train 3 cohorts of up to 12 participants each in a single working day, covering 36 staff with one site visit.
How On-Site Training Works
1
Book and Schedule
Contact Collier Training Solutions to discuss your requirements — number of participants, preferred dates, and any industry-specific content. We'll confirm a trainer and issue a booking confirmation.
2
Pre-Visit Preparation
Our instructor may request basic information about your workplace and the manual handling tasks your staff perform. This allows the course content to be tailored to your specific context.
3
Training Day
The instructor arrives at your premises with all training materials, assessment forms, and equipment. A standard indoor space of approximately 50–60 sq metres is sufficient for a group of 12. No special equipment is required.
4
Assessment and Certification
Participants complete a written knowledge check and a practical skills assessment. Those who pass receive a manual handling certificate valid for 3 years, typically issued on the day.
Venue Requirements
On-site training can be delivered in virtually any suitable indoor space. Common venues include staff canteens or break rooms, meeting rooms or boardrooms, warehouse or production floor clear areas, welfare facilities on construction sites, and purpose-built training rooms. The space should be large enough for participants to stand and move around comfortably during practical exercises.
There is no need for specialist training equipment. Our instructors bring demonstration props and materials. Where possible, using real workplace loads during the practical session enhances the training value — your instructor will discuss this during the pre-visit preparation stage.
